Daily Gold News: February 29 – Gold Price Still Below $2,050

Gold trades within a consolidation ahead of the important inflation and jobs data.

The gold futures contract lost 0.07% on Wednesday, February 28, as it continued to fluctuate below the $2,050 level. The market is going sideways following a rebound from the February 14 local low of $1,996.40. Gold was the lowest since mid-December, after breaking below local lows from January on the CPI release. Last Friday it went as high as $2,053.20.

In late January, gold was declining, but it quickly recovered losses, remaining above $2,000 mark. In early February, it bounced to the local high of $2,083.20, but then it declined and broke below the $2,050 level.

This morning gold is lower, but still within a consolidation, as we can see on the daily chart (the chart includes today’s intraday data):

The gold price is 0.3% lower, as it is trading slightly below the $2,040 level. What about the other precious metals? Silver is 0.4% lower, platinum is 0.2% higher and palladium is 0.8% higher. So, the main precious metals’ prices are lower again this morning.

Yesterday’s Preliminary GDP release has been slightly lower than expected at +3.2% q/q. Today, we will get the important Core PCE Price Index and Unemployment Claims releases at 8:30 a.m., among others.
